Immediate Relief Provided to Families of Villagers Who Died in Elephant Attack

Raipur, May 2026: On the instructions of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Smt. Lakshmi Rajwade, the district administration and forest department acted swiftly and disbursed compensation to the families of victims who lost their lives in an elephant attack in Kalyanpur village of Surajpur district. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Minister Rajwade directed officials to ensure that financial assistance was provided to the affected families without any delay.

Following the death of two villagers from Kalyanpur due to an elephant attack, the Forest and Climate Change Department (Surajpur Division) took prompt action under the financial year 2026–27 provisions. According to official records, compensation amounts were sanctioned and distributed to both affected families.

Beneficiary Smt. Kanti Bhoi received ₹5.50 lakh directly into her bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), while Smt. Rajeshwari Singh Shyam also received ₹5.50 lakh via DBT. In addition, ₹50,000 each was provided to the Divisional Forest Officer, Surajpur, through DBT for further necessary assistance and implementation-related support.

Minister Smt. Lakshmi Rajwade stated that ensuring the safety of people and standing with them in times of crisis remains a top priority of the government’s good governance model. She added that the administration is alert to reducing human–elephant conflict and is committed to extending all possible assistance to affected families.

This swift action has provided financial relief and support to the bereaved families. Local public representatives and villagers have expressed gratitude to Minister Rajwade for the prompt response and assistance.
