KKR Smash 247/2, Set Massive 248-Run Target as Gujarat Titans Begin Furious Chase in IPL 2026 Thriller

Kolkata, May 2026 : Kolkata Knight Riders produced a sensational batting display to post a towering total of 247 for 2 in 20 overs against Gujarat Titans in an IPL 2026 clash at Eden Gardens on Saturday, setting up one of the most explosive contests of the season.

KKR’s top and middle order fired in unison, launching a relentless assault on the Gujarat bowling attack from the very first over. Their aggressive intent and consistent boundary-hitting ensured a rapid scoring rate throughout the innings, leaving the opposition struggling to contain the flow of runs. With this total, Kolkata have now stamped their authority among the highest scores of the ongoing season.

Chasing a daunting target of 248, Gujarat Titans made a confident start despite the pressure of the steep chase. The opening pair managed to score 19 runs without loss in just 1.2 overs, showing early attacking intent. However, they still require 229 runs from the remaining deliveries, with the required run rate climbing to 12.27, while their current scoring rate stands at an aggressive 14.25.

Although Gujarat’s openers attempted to accelerate from the outset, the magnitude of the target has placed immense pressure on the batting unit. Experts believe that the performance of the middle order and the stability of key partnerships will be decisive in determining whether the Titans can mount a successful chase.

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders will aim to strike early and break partnerships quickly in order to defend their massive total. With such a high-scoring target on the board, the match is expected to remain heavily tilted towards the batters, promising a thrilling contest for spectators at Eden Gardens.

KKR’s Playoff Hopes Hang in Balance

Beyond the immediate action, KKR’s campaign in IPL 2026 remains finely poised. The team is under pressure after their previous loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which has made the remaining fixtures must-win encounters. The defending champions from IPL 2024 currently sit on 9 points after 11 matches and still retain a mathematical chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

However, their path is extremely narrow. With three home games remaining, KKR will be banking heavily on home advantage and crowd support, which has historically played a crucial role in their performances. If they win all remaining matches, they can reach a maximum of 15 points, though even that may not guarantee qualification depending on other results.

Teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals are still in contention and could cross the 16-point mark, making KKR’s qualification scenario even more complex. The Kolkata side will therefore need favourable outcomes elsewhere while ensuring they win every remaining fixture.

A key fixture against Delhi Capitals on May 24 could prove decisive. If results align, KKR could still sneak through with 13 points, but their net run rate will also need to stay ahead of Punjab Kings to remain in contention.

Weather Outlook

The weather in Kolkata is expected to remain warm, with temperatures ranging between 27°C and 37°C. Light rain is possible in the City of Joy, though chances remain low at around 8%, according to AccuWeather. The sky is likely to stay partly cloudy, ensuring minimal interruption to play.
