Divisional Disaster Management Conference Concludes in Nashik
Nashik : Micro-planning plays a crucial role in disaster management, and it is important to utilize available technology in the planning process, emphasized Nashik Divisional Revenue Commissioner Dr. Praveen Gedam.
To raise public awareness about natural disasters, a disaster management conference was held this morning at the Guru Dakshina Hall of Gokhale Education Society in Nashik. Dr. Gedam addressed the gathering, underscoring the importance of preparedness. Present at the event were Nashik Division Special Inspector General of Police Dattatraya Karale, Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, Collector Jalaj Sharma, Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Smita Zagde, Divisional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rani Tate, Resident Deputy Collector Rajendra Wagh, Nandurbar Resident Deputy Collector Shri Bhamre, and others.
In his speech, Commissioner Dr. Gedam noted that while disasters cannot be predicted, effective disaster management can mitigate their severity. He reminded attendees that the Disaster Management Act of 2005 was enacted to address such crises and emphasized the importance of maintaining coordination among all departments.
Special Inspector General of Police Shri Karale highlighted the need for proactive thinking during calamities. He advised that lessons should be learned from minor incidents and that citizens should remain calm during emergencies. He also stressed the importance of each department fulfilling its responsibilities.
During the conference, Former Yashada Director Colonel Vishwas Supnekar provided insights on crowd management, particularly in preparation for the upcoming Nashik Kumbh Mela in 2027. Other speakers included Anjali Adhe, Co-Director of ‘Dish,’ who discussed industrial security and CBRN, and Prashant Waghmare, Disaster Management Adviser to the Ministry. Co-Director of the Maharashtra Police Academy, Sanjay Salunkhe, also shared guidance on Kumbh Mela and disaster management. Officers, police personnel, and staff from the Disaster Management Department of Nashik Division were in attendance.
