Shri Ganesha of ‘Lakhpati Didi’ from Ganesha Idol Sales: Devotees Buy 90,000 Idols

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : A total of 183 women from self-help groups have created 251,485 Ganesha idols. More than 175 sales centers have been established through the ‘Umed’ initiative for these idols. This effort by the District Rural Development System of the Zilla Parishad aims to make the products of women self-help groups available in the market and support the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme. In the first week of these stalls, which started on the 3rd, devotees have purchased 90,000 idols, generating a turnover of up to Rs 1 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme to help women in self-help groups increase their income. Stalls have been set up at over 175 locations across the district to sell Ganesha idols made by these women under the ‘Umed’ campaign, facilitated by the District Rural Development System. This is the second year of this initiative, and a grand stall is also set up at the Zilla Parishad premises. The response from Ganesha devotees in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has been positive, with significant sales reported. Marketing Officer Sachin Sonwane noted that 90,000 idols have been sold in the first week, with a turnover reaching Rs 1 crore.

Visiting the idol-selling stall at the Zilla Parishad premises, the craftsmanship of the idols, showcasing the beauty of Lord Ganesha, has been highly praised. Devotees are also able to upload a selfie with Lord Ganesha by scanning a QR code provided after purchasing the idol.

This initiative is based on the concept of Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Vikas Meena, who has urged Ganesha devotees to support the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme by buying idols made by women in self-help groups.

This year, 183 self-help groups have produced 251,485 idols, with sales centers established at 175 locations in the district. The idols are offered at lower prices compared to others in the market, with a 10 percent discount available.
