Apple Speeds Up Security Updates to Counter AI-Driven Cyber Threats
New Delhi, June 2026 : US technology giant Apple is accelerating the rollout of software security updates as artificial intelligence (AI) enables cybercriminals to develop increasingly sophisticated hacking tools, according to company statements cited in media reports.
The move marks a significant shift in Apple’s software update strategy, with the company planning to release important security patches much earlier than before instead of bundling them into major iOS updates.
According to the reports, Apple believes that shortening the time between identifying security vulnerabilities and delivering fixes to users has become critical as AI significantly reduces the window available for attackers to exploit known software weaknesses.
Traditionally, Apple has included many security fixes as part of larger operating system upgrades. Before these major releases, the software undergoes extensive testing by developers and beta users, who help identify bugs and other issues before the updates are made available to the general public.
However, the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape has prompted the iPhone maker to revise this approach. Instead of waiting for the next full version of iOS, Apple now plans to push security-related updates to users as soon as they are ready, ensuring devices receive protection against emerging threats more quickly.
The company said the decision is intended to strengthen user security in an era where AI is making it easier and faster for malicious actors to create advanced cyberattack tools.
Despite the growing concerns over cyber threats, Apple clarified that there is currently no evidence to suggest that any of the newly patched software vulnerabilities have been actively exploited by attackers.
Even so, the company believes that proactively reducing the time required to deploy security fixes is essential to staying ahead of evolving cyber risks.
The announcement comes as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the cybersecurity landscape, benefiting both defenders and attackers. While AI-powered tools are helping technology companies detect vulnerabilities more efficiently, the same technology is also enabling cybercriminals to automate attacks, identify software flaws and develop more sophisticated malware at a faster pace.
Separately, Apple has also increased prices for select MacBook and iPad models amid rising memory and semiconductor costs driven by the global AI boom.
The company recently indicated that it could no longer fully absorb the rising cost of key components, particularly memory and storage chips, whose prices have surged due to strong demand from AI data centres and cloud computing providers.
The dual developments underscore Apple’s efforts to adapt to the rapidly changing technology landscape, balancing enhanced cybersecurity measures with the economic pressures created by the growing adoption of artificial intelligence across industries.
