Implement Integrated Redevelopment Plan for The Children’s Aid Society Properties: CM Devendra Fadnavis
Chief Minister Chairs Meeting of The Children’s Aid Society Governing Board
Mumbai, June 2026 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to immediately remove encroachments from properties owned by The Children’s Aid Society across Mumbai and implement an integrated redevelopment plan after securing the reclaimed land.
Chairing a meeting of the Society’s Governing Board at the Vidhan Bhavan on Monday, the Chief Minister said the Society’s centenary celebrations should be held at its redeveloped premises.
Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare and Mayor Ritu Tawde attended the meeting.
During the meeting, approval was granted to introduce a Certificate Course in Welding at the Society’s Industrial Training Institute (ITI).
The Chief Minister instructed officials to submit a revised proposal seeking recognition of The Children’s Aid Society as a government institution. He said that once the proposal is submitted, it should be examined by the Law and Judiciary Department.
He also directed officials to prepare a revised organisational structure for the Society by reviewing all sanctioned posts. The restructuring, he said, should prioritise child protection, rehabilitation, education, and welfare while creating positions suited to these objectives.
Fadnavis further instructed that a proposal be immediately submitted to the Skill Development Department to obtain recognition for the Society’s Industrial Training Institute as an authorised examination centre. The department would then facilitate the required approval.
The Chief Minister also directed that an integrated office complex named “Ahilya Bhavan” be constructed on the site currently occupied by the staff residential colony within the premises of the David Sassoon Industrial School at Matunga. The proposed complex will house offices of the Women and Child Development Department.
Regarding the Society’s land at Borla, Fadnavis instructed officials to remove all encroachments except those belonging to occupants who were in possession before 2011, in accordance with applicable policies. He emphasised that redevelopment work should commence without delay once the land is cleared.
He also directed that a government office located in the Anushakti Nagar Assembly constituency be allotted space on the reclaimed land after the encroachments are removed.
The meeting also approved the relocation of the existing sports complex at Mankhurd to land that will be made available after clearing encroachments.
The Chief Minister further directed that the Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Home for Children with Disabilities at Mankhurd be upgraded into a fully equipped facility with modern amenities.
He also instructed officials to incorporate the layout of Bal Kalyan Nagari at Mankhurd into the revised integrated redevelopment plan and submit the proposal for approval.
Women and Child Development Department Secretary Dr Anup Kumar Yadav made a presentation during the meeting.
Also present were Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) O.P. Gupta, Mumbai Suburban District Collector Saurabh Katiyar, Chairman of The Children’s Aid Society Milind Talaskar, Chief Officer Pravin Bhavsar, and other senior officials.
