‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Star Kaylee Hottle Dies in Car Accident at 18

Los Angeles, July 2026 : Actress Kaylee Hottle, best known for her heartfelt portrayal of Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and its sequel Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024), has died in a tragic car accident in Maryland. She was 18.

The news of her death was confirmed by her father, Joshua Hottle, during a Facebook livestream conducted in American Sign Language (ASL). According to reports, he informed viewers that Kaylee had been killed in a car accident in Maryland and that he was travelling from Texas to bring her body home.

The Texas School for the Deaf (TSD), where Kaylee was a senior, also confirmed her passing in an official statement, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of one of its students.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our TSD seniors, Kaylee Hottle, tragically passed away yesterday in a car accident in Frederick, Maryland,” the school said.

The institution extended its condolences to Kaylee’s family, friends, classmates and all those whose lives she had touched. School officials also appealed to the public to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from speculation about the circumstances surrounding the accident, noting that only limited information was currently available.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Kaylee came from a multigenerational deaf family. Both she and her father were deaf, and American Sign Language was her primary language. She became a powerful advocate for deaf representation in the entertainment industry and inspired audiences through her performances.

Kaylee rose to international prominence with her role as Jia, a deaf orphan who develops a unique emotional connection with Kong in Godzilla vs. Kong. Her character, adopted by Dr. Ilene Andrews, played a central role in the MonsterVerse films. One of the most memorable aspects of her performance was her ability to communicate with Kong using American Sign Language, adding emotional depth and authenticity to the story. She reprised the role in the blockbuster sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, released in 2024.

Before entering films, Kaylee began her acting journey in 2017 at the age of nine through television commercials promoting services for the deaf community, including campaigns for the video interpreting platform Convo.

Her breakthrough came when acclaimed casting director Sarah Halley Finn searched for a deaf actress to portray Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong. Through recommendations from industry professionals, including an assistant director who had previously seen Kaylee in a Convo commercial, she was selected for the role that would launch her acting career.
