Mahtari Vandan Yojana Emerges as a New Symbol of Women’s Economic Empowerment

Over Rs 18,805 Crore Transferred to Women Through 29 Installments, Strengthening Self-Reliance and Financial Security

Raipur, July 2026 : The Mahtari Vandan Yojana has emerged as a landmark initiative for women’s empowerment in Chhattisgarh, becoming a powerful symbol of economic independence and social dignity. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the scheme is not only providing direct financial assistance to women but also empowering them to lead more self-reliant, confident, and dignified lives.

The Department of Women and Child Development, under the guidance of Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Rajwade, has ensured the effective implementation of the scheme across the state. Its positive impact is now visible in every district of Chhattisgarh.

With the release of the 29th installment on July 11, 2026, eligible women across the state received Rs 1,000 each directly into their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Since the launch of the scheme, the state government has transferred more than Rs 18,805 crore directly to beneficiaries through 29 installments.

Reaffirming its commitment to women’s economic empowerment, the state government has allocated Rs 8,200 crore for the Mahtari Vandan Yojana in the 2026–27 state budget.

Minister Lakshmi Rajwade said the scheme is not only improving the financial condition of women but also enhancing their self-respect and confidence. She stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the government remains committed to the holistic development of women across the state.

According to the minister, the regular financial assistance is enabling women to contribute more effectively to household finances while investing in their children’s education, healthcare, and nutrition.

Success stories from across Chhattisgarh reflect the transformative impact of the scheme.

In Balod district, Devki Vishwakarma of Baghmara village uses the monthly assistance to meet household expenses, support her children’s education, purchase medicines, and invest in her tailoring work. Jamvanti Vishwakarma says the financial assistance has become a reliable source of monthly support for her family. Radhika Sonwani shared that the scheme enables her to pay her children’s school fees on time, significantly reducing the family’s financial burden.

In Jashpur district, Jyoti Pandey said she no longer has to depend on others for meeting small day-to-day expenses. Rehana Khatoon used the financial support to start a small home-based business and is now earning independently, strengthening her family’s financial condition. Kavita Sharma and Anju Sharma said the regular assistance has given them the confidence to become financially independent and live with greater dignity.

Similarly, Basanti Dhurve from Dumaria village in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district said receiving the 29th installment has helped her meet essential household needs. She believes the scheme not only provides financial support but also motivates women to become self-reliant and move forward in life.

One of the most significant outcomes of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana is that the monthly financial assistance has strengthened women’s ability to make independent financial decisions. It has increased their participation in household decision-making, improved investments in children’s education and healthcare, and encouraged savings and small-scale self-employment initiatives across the state.
