Criminals Should Fear the Law: Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma Warns Officials, Holds IGs and SPs Accountable for Crime
Jaipur, July 2026 : Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday directed police and Home Department officials to adopt a tough and uncompromising approach against crime, stating that action against criminals should be so effective and decisive that it instils fear among offenders.
Reviewing the state’s law and order situation, the Chief Minister made it clear that Inspectors General (IGs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) would be held directly accountable for crimes occurring in their respective jurisdictions. He asserted that criminal activities would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The Chief Minister reprimanded police chiefs from several districts, stating that merely arresting offenders in cases of organised crime, cybercrime, and drug trafficking was not enough. Instead, the entire criminal network behind such offences must be dismantled.
During the meeting, Sharma sought explanations from police officials over recent criminal incidents in Alwar, Sri Ganganagar, and Bharatpur. Acting on his directions, a notice was also issued to a senior official in connection with an encroachment case involving grazing land in Gogunda.
He stressed that police action should target not only criminals but also those supporting and financing them, ensuring that offenders think “a hundred times” before committing any crime in the future. While acknowledging that incidents of organised crime and firing had declined compared to 2023, he said the pace of improvement must accelerate further, noting that even a single major incident could damage the image of both the police and the state.
Special drive against illegal arms
Describing illegal weapons as the backbone of organised crime, the Chief Minister directed police to launch special campaigns in districts that have witnessed a rise in Arms Act cases. He instructed officers to go beyond seizing illegal weapons and arresting individual offenders by tracing the entire supply chain and identifying the masterminds behind such networks.
Target financial and social networks of criminals
Sharma emphasised the need to dismantle both the financial and social support systems of criminals. He directed police to closely monitor social media, particularly keeping an eye on youths who glorify or follow criminals online.
He also called for stringent action against land mafia activities and hawala transactions to choke the financial resources of organised crime. The Chief Minister further instructed officials to expedite the seizure, attachment, and demolition of illegally acquired properties belonging to drug traffickers.
Strengthen cyber policing
To curb cyber fraud, Sharma ordered enhanced cyber patrolling and the deployment of dedicated personnel in cyber cells. He stressed that swift action in cases of digital arrest scams and online fraud was essential to maintaining public confidence.
He instructed officials to ensure that no cybercrime network is allowed to operate from Rajasthan.
Strict action in crimes against women and children
Calling crimes against women and children extremely serious, the Chief Minister directed police to ensure prompt investigation, speedy justice, and strict punishment for offenders. He urged officials to handle such cases with sensitivity and urgency at every level.
Sharma also instructed all Range IGs and district SPs to personally review pending cases related to the NDPS Act, gangsters, history-sheeters, illegal arms, and organised crime, ensuring their time-bound disposal. He warned that officers in districts failing to deliver expected results would be held accountable.
Regular Community Liaison Group meetings
The Chief Minister further directed all districts to conduct regular Community Liaison Group (CLG) meetings to strengthen coordination between the police and the public. He said the meetings should be monitored regularly at the headquarters level to ensure that public suggestions and grievances are addressed in a time-bound manner.
The review meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, senior officials from the Chief Minister’s Office, the Home Department, and the Police Department, while Range IGs and Superintendents of Police from across the state participated through video conferencing.
