Iranian Strikes Hit Kuwait, Injure Soldiers and Damage Key Power Facility

Kuwait, July 2026 : Several members of Kuwait’s armed forces were injured and a major power generation and water desalination facility sustained extensive damage after Iranian drone and missile strikes targeted military and strategic installations across the country on Friday, according to Kuwaiti authorities. The attacks marked a sharp escalation in regional tensions despite recent diplomatic efforts aimed at easing hostilities.

The Kuwaiti Army confirmed that multiple military camps and facilities came under what it described as “hostile” drone attacks during the morning. While officials acknowledged that several soldiers were injured, they did not disclose the exact number of casualties or the severity of their injuries. Security forces have since intensified protective measures at military installations across the country.

In a separate statement, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said an Iranian strike hit one of the country’s power generation and water desalination plants, triggering a large fire that caused significant structural and operational damage. Emergency firefighting teams managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading further, while engineers and technical personnel immediately began repair work to restore damaged generating units.

The ministry appealed to residents to reduce electricity consumption, citing the extraordinary circumstances and the need to maintain stability in the national power grid while restoration efforts continue.

Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as a blatant violation of the country’s sovereignty and international law. The ministry warned that such actions threaten regional stability and reaffirmed Kuwait’s right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its national security and protect its citizens.

The strikes come despite a memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran in mid-June, under which both sides had agreed to pursue negotiations within 60 days toward a broader peace agreement. Friday’s developments have raised fresh concerns over the future of those diplomatic efforts.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a broader retaliatory military operation targeting US-linked military assets across the region. According to statements carried by Iranian media, the IRGC said it launched strikes against a US special operations command centre at Syria’s al-Tanf base, American weapons depots and missile launchers in Kuwait, as well as radar installations in Oman.

The IRGC stated that the attacks formed part of the 11th, 12th and 13th phases of its ongoing Operation Nasr-2. It claimed the first phase was carried out in memory of soldiers killed in Bampur, Iranshahr, and alleged that the strikes destroyed missile defence radar systems, US weapons depots, two HIMARS launchers and other military equipment, causing major fires at a base hosting American forces in Kuwait.

The situation remains highly volatile as regional governments closely monitor further military developments and the potential impact on security across the Gulf.
