Trump Claims Gaza Disarmament Deal Reached as Netanyahu Holds Talks in Washington

Washington, July 2026 : US President Donald Trump has claimed that the so-called Board of Peace has reached an agreement for the “complete disarmament” of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, describing the development as a major step towards establishing a new governing structure in the Palestinian territory.

Trump announced the agreement in a post on Truth Social, saying the arrangement would eventually pave the way for Gaza to be governed by a new Palestinian administration working closely with the Board of Peace.

“This agreement is a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people,” Trump said.

He added that the arrangement would also seek to address Israel’s security concerns by ensuring that Gaza could no longer be used as a base for attacks.

According to Trump, implementation of the agreement would take place in structured phases. As the disarmament process progresses, Israeli forces would withdraw from Gaza, while an International Stabilisation Force would work alongside a newly established Palestinian police force to gradually assume responsibility for security in the territory.

Trump said Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye had played an important role as mediators in helping broker the agreement.

However, Hamas had not immediately confirmed the reported agreement, leaving uncertainty over the status and implementation of the proposed disarmament arrangement.

The announcement came as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in Washington for talks with Trump. Netanyahu’s office released photographs showing the two leaders together, while an Israeli official described their meeting as “very positive”.

The discussions were expected to cover several major regional issues, including the ongoing war involving Iran, negotiations concerning Lebanon and efforts to expand the Abraham Accords, which seek to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between Israel and Arab countries.

A White House official said Netanyahu was also expected to present Trump with intelligence concerning alleged Iranian activity at Pickaxe Mountain, an underground facility believed to be linked to Iran’s nuclear programme.

Trump, however, appeared displeased that Netanyahu had publicly indicated that he intended to raise the issue before the meeting. Speaking to Fox News, the US President questioned why the Israeli leader had announced his plans publicly instead of discussing them directly with him.

The exchange highlighted differences in approach between Washington and Jerusalem over how to deal with Iran. Trump has repeatedly indicated that he favours renewed diplomatic engagement with Tehran, while Israel has advocated maintaining strong pressure on Iran over its nuclear programme and broader regional activities.

The reported Gaza agreement, if confirmed and implemented, could represent a significant development in efforts to reshape the security and political structure of the territory. Key questions remain, however, over Hamas’ position, the mechanics of disarmament, the composition of any new Palestinian administration and the timing of an Israeli military withdrawal.
