A Historic Day for Marathi Language – Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Recognizing Marathi as a Classical Language
Mumbai : Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the historic decision to grant classical language status to Marathi, calling today a golden day for the Marathi language.
Thanking the 12 crore people of Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis said that efforts were made both during his tenure as Chief Minister and even now under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to achieve this milestone. He acknowledged the contributions of many scholars who helped demonstrate the classical nature of Marathi through significant works such as Leela Charitra, Dnyaneshwari, and Vivek Sindhu. He expressed deep appreciation to them for their efforts, adding, “Finally, the day has arrived.”
Fadnavis also noted that it is especially auspicious that this recognition comes on the first day of Navratri, which adds to the joy. He extended congratulations to Marathi-speaking people in Maharashtra and across the world. This decision paves the way for enhanced support and funding from the central government for the all-round development of the Marathi language.
The state government has taken several significant steps to preserve and promote Marathi, including the establishment of a Marathi university, a dialect expansion project, the promotion of reading movements, the creation of a “village of books,” and the construction of Marathi Bhasha Bhavan. Fadnavis added.
