Yogi govt’s first Deepotsav post consecration ceremony of Lord Ram aims to set new world record

Ayodhya : Under the leadership of the Yogi government, the first Deepotsav following the consecration ceremony of Lord Ram promises to set a new world record. For the eighth edition of Deepotsav, led by Prof. Pratibha Goyal, Vice Chancellor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, extensive preparations have been made to light over 25 lakh diyas with the support of 30,000 volunteers, aiming to make Deepotsav 2024 a historic event.

On Tuesday, a team of 30 members, led by Guinness World Records consultant Nischal Barot, began counting the diyas on the 55 ghats of the Saryu River. The counting was conducted in the presence of supervisors, ghat coordinators, and volunteers, bringing Ayodhya closer to achieving a new world record.

The university administration has provided important guidelines to volunteers and staff to make Deepotsav a spectacular and grand event.

On October 30, the day of Deepotsav, each volunteer will receive a one-liter bottle of mustard oil to carefully fill the 28 lakh diyas, taking care to avoid any oil spills on the ghats.

The university has completed the setup of 28 lakh diyas across the 55 ghats of the Saryu River. For this effort, a large team of over two thousand, including supervisors and ghat coordinators, will oversee the lighting of more than 25 lakh diyas.

To highlight the beauty of Deepotsav on a global level, university volunteers have arranged 80,000 diyas in the shape of a swastika on Ghat No. 10, symbolizing auspiciousness and serving as a central attraction.

Under the leadership of University Vice Chancellor Prof. Pratibha Goyal, 30,000 volunteers have arranged blocks of 16×16 diyas on each of the 55 ghats, with each block containing 256 diyas. Each volunteer is tasked with lighting between 85 and 90 diyas.

Deepotsav Nodal Officer Prof. Sant Sharan Mishra noted that the university, in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government and district administration, has finalized all preparations.

Security for the 55 ghats in Ram Nagari is being ensured by the police and university security staff, with tightened entry controls—only those with ID cards are allowed access.

On October 30, Deepotsav day, the process will start from 10 am as volunteers, overseen by supervisors and ghat coordinators, begin filling over 25 lakh diyas with oil and adding wicks.

The diyas will then be lit at the designated time in the late evening, following the government’s schedule.
