India’s C-DOT Partners with CSIR-CEERI to Develop 2G-5G Multi-Band Antenna Technology

New Delhi : In line with the “Bharat 6G Vision” and the objectives of “Made in India” and self-reliant India, the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the premier Telecom R&D center under India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has partnered with CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI), Pilani. This collaboration aims to develop a “Multiport Switch with Tunable Impedance Matching Network” that enables a single broadband antenna to support 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G bands.

Funded under the Department of Telecommunications’ Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme, the project is geared toward advancing India’s telecom ecosystem by fostering innovation within Indian startups, academia, and R&D institutions. The primary goal is to create a Microelectromechanical technology-based switching network that can enhance antenna performance across multiple communication bands.

The agreement was formalized at a ceremony attended by Dr. Pankaj Kumar Dalela, Director of C-DOT, and Dr. Deepak Bansal, principal investigator from CSIR-CEERI, Pilani. Dr. Bansal commended DoT and C-DOT for their ongoing support and commitment to building advanced infrastructure and research capabilities across India’s telecom sector. C-DOT CEO Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay reiterated the organization’s dedication to developing cutting-edge communication solutions aligned with the Prime Minister’s Bharat 6G Vision. Representatives from C-DOT expressed their enthusiasm for this collaboration, particularly for creating a next-generation Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS)-based solution for multiport switching in future communication systems.

This innovative technology will enable a single antenna to operate across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G bands, and beyond, with minimal noise interference.
