Noel Tata Announces Exit as Voltas Chairman, Says Company Well Positioned for Future Growth

Mumbai, June 2026 : Tata Group veteran Noel Tata on Tuesday announced that he will step down as Chairman of Voltas, marking the end of his tenure at the helm of the Tata Group’s leading cooling products company. The announcement comes less than a week after he revealed his decision to relinquish the chairmanship of Trent, another key Tata Group company.

Addressing shareholders at Voltas’ 72nd Annual General Meeting (AGM), the 69-year-old said the meeting would be his final one as chairman, bringing to a close a leadership role he has held since September 2017.

“As you might be aware, this will be my last annual general meeting as Chairman,” Tata told shareholders during his address.

Reflecting on the company’s progress, Noel Tata expressed confidence that Voltas is well prepared for its next phase of growth, supported by a strong leadership team and a well-planned succession strategy.

He said the company has successfully developed its next generation of leaders through a combination of internal promotions and strategic lateral recruitment, ensuring continuity in leadership across its businesses.

“The company has developed our next generation of leaders, from both in-house promotions and lateral hires. I am confident that with the close cooperation of seasoned practitioners and new talent, your company will continue to take big strides in all business segments,” he said.

Tata also thanked shareholders, employees, business partners and other stakeholders for their continued trust and support throughout his tenure.

“I would like to sincerely thank all our shareholders, colleagues and partners for your trust, understanding and constant support over the years,” he said, adding that he was proud of the company’s achievements and optimistic about its future prospects.

Highlighting Voltas’ recent performance, Tata said the company has entered the new financial year on a strong footing, particularly in its room air-conditioner business.

“I have great satisfaction that Voltas stands strong today, having entered the new financial year on a strong note. Our room air conditioning business crossed the milestone of one million units in a record 81 days, reaffirming its undisputed market leadership,” he said.

Noel Tata joined the Voltas Board on January 27, 2003, and took over as Non-Executive Chairman on September 1, 2017, succeeding veteran Tata Group executive Ishaat Hussain.

His latest announcement follows a similar declaration made during Trent’s Annual General Meeting on June 23, where he informed shareholders that he would also step down as Chairman of the Tata Group’s retail arm.

Noel Tata currently serves as Chairman of Tata Trusts, the principal shareholder of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. He is set to turn 70 in November this year. While the Companies Act, 2013, prescribes conditions for managing directors and whole-time directors continuing in office after the age of 70, those provisions do not apply to non-executive chairpersons such as Tata.

His decision to step down from the chairmanships of Voltas and Trent is seen as part of a broader leadership transition within the Tata Group, with the company focusing on grooming the next generation of leaders to drive future growth and innovation.
