New York, July 2026 : France captain Kylian Mbappe etched his name deeper into FIFA World Cup history by winning the Golden Boot at the 2026 edition, becoming the first player ever to claim the tournament’s top-scorer award twice. The French superstar finished with an impressive 10 goals despite France ending their campaign with a 6-4 defeat to England in the third-place playoff in Miami on Saturday.

Mbappe sealed the prestigious individual honour by scoring twice against England in a thrilling bronze-medal match. The French captain continued his prolific run in the knockout rounds, scoring twice against Sweden before converting the decisive penalty against Paraguay to send France into the quarterfinals. He followed that with another goal in France’s 2-0 victory over Morocco, helping Les Bleus reach the semifinals.

France’s dream of reaching a second consecutive World Cup final ended with a 2-0 defeat to eventual champions Spain. Although Mbappe was unable to score in the semifinal, he bounced back emphatically in the third-place playoff by striking twice against England, taking his tournament tally to 10 goals and securing the Golden Boot.
