Mumbai : Voting for the Assembly elections will take place on November 20, 2024. The Election Commission of India has announced that, besides the voter ID card, voters whose names are listed in the electoral roll may present one of 12 alternative types of ID proofs to cast their vote. This information was provided by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer.

According to the Election Commission’s directive, voters with a photo voter ID card will present it at polling stations to verify their identity. For those unable to provide a photo voter ID card, any one of the following 12 ID proofs will be accepted for identification:

  1. Aadhaar card
  2. Job card issued under MNREGA
  3. Bank or postal passbook with photo
  4. Health insurance smart card issued by the Ministry of Labor
  5. Driving license
  6. PAN card
  7. Smart card issued by the Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner under the National Population Register
  8. Passport
  9. Pension documents
  10. Photo ID card issued by the Central or State government or public sector undertakings, or public limited companies to their employees
  11. Official ID card issued to members of Parliament, Legislative Assembly, or Legislative Council
  12. Special ID card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for persons with disabilities

Non-resident Indians (NRIs) must present their original passport for identification.

If a voter has changed their address on the electoral roll but has not yet received a new voter ID, the previous ID will be accepted, provided their name appears in the list under the current address. Additionally, all registered voters will receive slips with information about their polling station, list section number, voting date, and time at least five days before the election. Voters are advised to bring their voter information slip and photo ID when they go to vote, as urged by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
