Yogi govt to empower street vendors as ‘brand ambassadors’ under PM SVANidhi Yojana
Lucknow : In a novel initiative, the Yogi Adityanath government is set to identify street vendors across districts and cities in Uttar Pradesh to appoint them as ‘brand ambassadors’ under the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Yojana. This move aims to economically empower street vendors while acknowledging their vital role in society, marking a significant step toward their recognition and upliftment.
As part of this initiative, the ‘SVANidhi Bhi, Swabhiman Bhi’ fortnight has been rolled out from November 18 to December 2, 2024. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Urban Development Department to ensure the active engagement of street vendors and their families in the program.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Yogi government has designated members of Town Vending Committees (TVC) and active street vendors as ‘SVANidhi Mitras.’ These Mitras will assist their peers in accessing scheme benefits and raise awareness about its various provisions.
Additionally, the government is encouraging street vendors to adopt digital transactions. The government has previously honored vendors who earned the highest cashback through digital platforms at events like SVANidhi Deepawali and Makar Sankranti Mahotsav. This initiative promotes Digital India, ensuring transparency in earnings while fostering economic inclusivity for street vendors.
As part of the event, free medical and health check-up camps will be organized for street vendors and their families, ensuring access to essential healthcare for a section of society that often lacks such services. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to extending health benefits to underserved communities.
Last year, the SVANidhi Mahotsav was held on a grand scale across all districts from June 1 to July 7. Street vendors and their families actively participated, sharing their experiences and celebrating their journey.
Moreover, cultural programs during the Deepawali Mela and Makar Sankranti Mela featured activities such as painting, slogan writing, mehndi, rangoli, dance, singing, and culinary competitions, providing a vibrant and empowering platform for the vendors and their families.
The initiatives undertaken by the Yogi government under the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Yojana continue to bring transformative changes to the lives of street vendors. Beyond financial assistance, these efforts honor their contributions to society.
Through the ‘SVANidhi Bhi, Swabhiman Bhi’ fortnight and similar events, the government is fostering self-reliance and empowerment among street vendors, paving the way for a more inclusive and resilient community.
