Approximately 2000 boats are being painted under the Namami Gange Mission.

Mahakumbh Nagar : The identity of Prayagraj is globally recognized through the Triveni Sangam, and the Sangam is identified by the boats that float there. It is these boats and boatmen that ferry devotees from the banks to the confluence of the three holy rivers. In Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s campaign to make the Mahakumbh clean and safe, special attention is being given to the boats and boatmen at the Sangam. On one hand, CM Yogi personally distributed life jackets and insurance certificates to the boatmen, and on the other, efforts are being made to repair and beautify their boats. Under the Namami Gange Mission, the ghats of the Ganga and Yamuna and the boats that sail on them are being cleaned and adorned with paintings and artwork.

Around 2000 Boats Being Painted Under Namami Gange Mission

With Mahakumbh 2025 approaching, various construction and beautification works are being carried out across Prayagraj and the Mahakumbh Mela area. As part of this initiative, the concrete ghats and boats at the Sangam are being painted and beautified, with messages promoting cleanliness being inscribed on them. These messages aim to inspire devotees to join the clean Mahakumbh campaign. SDM Abhinav Pathak of the Prayagraj Mela Authority stated that under the “Paint My City” campaign, the entire city of Prayagraj, along with the ghats and boats in the Sangam area, is being beautified under the Namami Gange Mission. He added that under this mission, the Mela Authority is executing painting and artwork on a 5 lakh square foot area, which includes the painting of approximately 2,000 boats. This effort is aimed at ensuring a pleasant experience for the devotees visiting the Mahakumbh and encouraging them, through the painted cleanliness messages, to contribute to keeping the rivers clean.

Boatmen at Sangam Motivated by CM Yogi’s Efforts

The boatmen and ferrymen, who have been operating boats at the Prayagraj Sangam for generations, expressed their excitement and gratitude for the efforts of CM Yogi. They stated that for the first time, a government is showing concern for their well-being during Kumbh and Mahakumbh. Siaram Nishad, a boatman, shared that previous governments used to only issue licenses and fix boat ride rates during such events, without offering any additional benefits. He added, “The Yogi government, during this Mahakumbh, has not only provided us with life jackets and insurance but has also increased the boat ride rates by 50%. On top of that, they are repairing and painting our boats. What more could we ask for?”
