CM Stalin Awards Housing to Tamil Translators Under Dream Housing Scheme

As part of the “Dream Housing Scheme,” Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin today (13.01.2025) awarded housing allocations in Tamil Nadu Housing Board apartments to 10 eminent Tamil translators who had received the Sahitya Akademi Translation Award for their exceptional Tamil translations. The event took place at the Secretariat in Chennai.

In honor of the 97th birth anniversary of Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi, the Dream Housing Scheme was extended on 3.6.2021, announcing the allocation of homes worth ₹40 lakh each to Tamil Nadu-based awardees of the Sahitya Akademi Translation Award.

During the event, Chief Minister Stalin presented orders for housing allocations to translators whose award-winning works included translations of celebrated literary texts into Tamil from various languages such as Malayalam, Kannada, Odia, Telugu, and English. Notable recipients include Mr. A. Selvarasu for “Vishakanni,” Mr. P. Bhaskaran for “Yerum,” and Ms. Thilagavathi Krishnan for “Meedchi,” among others. Each recipient was allocated apartments in Tamil Nadu Housing Board properties across cities like Tanjore, Chennai, and Coimbatore.

Additionally, the Chief Minister released ten translated volumes of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s works, translated into Tamil to make his thoughts and ideas accessible to the public. These volumes cover pivotal topics such as caste, untouchability, social revolution, and the history of Indian politics.

The event was attended by Tamil Development and Information Minister Mr. M.P. Saminathan, senior officials, and notable Tamil scholars and translators.
