U.S. Accelerates $4B Military Aid to Israel, Reverses Arms Embargo

In a significant policy shift, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Saturday that the Trump administration would accelerate the delivery of nearly $4 billion in military aid to Israel. This move effectively reverses the Biden administration’s partial arms embargo, which had previously withheld some weapons and ammunition from Israel.

Rubio stated, “I have signed a declaration to use emergency authorities to expedite the delivery of nearly $4 billion in military aid to Israel. The Biden administration’s decision to reverse the partial arms embargo, which wrongly withheld many weapons and ammunition, demonstrates that Israel has no greater ally in the White House than President Trump.”

The decision reaffirms the strong alliance between the United States and Israel, with Trump positioning his administration as a steadfast supporter of Israeli security. Since taking office, the Trump administration has approved nearly $12 billion in major foreign military sales (FMS) to Israel, strengthening bilateral defense relations.

Rubio emphasized that this decision aligns with broader efforts to support Israel’s security amid ongoing regional conflicts. “This move coincides with President Trump’s rescinding of a Biden-era memorandum that imposed unnecessary political conditions on military assistance to Israel at a time when our close ally is facing existential threats from Iran and terrorist proxies,” he explained.

The Trump administration has pledged to use all available means to uphold America’s long-standing commitment to Israel’s security. “The Trump administration will continue to utilize all necessary measures to fulfill America’s commitment to Israel’s defense, counter security threats, and ensure stability in the region,” Rubio stated.

Reports indicate that Biden had previously withheld certain weapons shipments to Israel, with exceptions such as a batch of 2,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs, which arrived in Israel after Trump lifted the embargo last month. The Times of Israel noted that Rubio specifically referenced Trump’s reversal of National Security Memorandum 20, a policy signed by Biden in response to progressive lobbying within the Democratic Party. This memorandum had mandated written commitments from U.S. arms recipients, ensuring that weapons would not be used against civilians or to obstruct humanitarian aid.

With this latest development, the Trump administration’s policy shift signals a renewed commitment to strengthening Israel’s military capabilities while reinforcing its strategic alliance with the United States. The move is expected to have significant implications for Middle Eastern geopolitics and U.S. foreign policy in the region.
