UD&PA Minister Inaugurates ‘Sanjha Utsav – Festival Of Togetherness’ At Aijal Club Park
Aizawl : The ‘Sanjha Utsav (SHG Mela) – Festival of Togetherness’ was inaugurated at Aijal Club Park by Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Minister, Shri K. Sapdanga. The event, organized by the UD&PA Department, aims to promote and support Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Mizoram, enhancing their economic opportunities and self-sustainability.
During the inauguration, the Minister emphasized the importance of collective effort through Self-Help Group for sustainable economic growth. He also encouraged reducing single-use plastic and urged SHG members to take the lead in educating others about eco-friendly practices.
As per the report presented today, Mizoram has 1,520 active SHGs under the DAY-NULM (Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission) since 2014-15. Over 10,733 individuals have received certified training, with 5,158 already employed. Mizoram has also won the SPARK Award for outstanding progress under the program for the year 2021-22 and 2022-23.
The SHG Mela, running from March 10 to 14, features 27 stalls showcasing SHG products and 7 stalls for food vendors, providing a platform for local entrepreneurs to exhibit and sell their goods. The event highlights the state’s commitment to poverty alleviation and sustainable urban development.
