Yogi govt announces Rs 60 crore grant for 26 units missed under 2017 Policy to revive handloom & textile sector
- Relief for local entrepreneurs to revive textile sector, enhance production capacity
- Grant for handloom and powerloom units to boost investment and jobs in silk, textile, and garment sectors
Lucknow : Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant step to boost the handloom, powerloom, silk, textile, and garment industries. It has announced financial support for units that made partial investments before the 2017 textile policy but were left out of its benefits—a move set to reinvigorate the state’s traditional textile sector.
The decision will directly benefit around 26 industrial units, with the government extending grants worth approximately Rs 60 crore to enhance their production capacity. A formal order has been issued to bring these units under the 2017 policy’s scope—offering long-awaited relief to those that met investment norms but were excluded due to timing or technicalities.
Notably, the Yogi government goes beyond policy-making by regularly reviewing schemes to ensure that entrepreneurs left out due to technical or administrative reasons are also brought into the fold.
The Uttar Pradesh Handloom, Powerloom, Silk, Textile, and Garmenting Policy-2017 was introduced to boost the state’s textile sector, attract investment, and create jobs. Offering a range of subsidies and incentives, the policy has drawn strong investor interest and spurred new projects. However, several units that made partial investments before the policy’s rollout but began commercial production later were left out. Taking a positive and inclusive approach, the government has now decided to bring these units under the policy and extend them the eligible subsidies.
Units that had made partial investments before July 13, 2017, but began commercial operations later will now be eligible for benefits under the 2017 policy. This decision will be equally applicable to small, medium, large, and mega units.
This move is expected to give fresh momentum to industrial investment in the state, encouraging existing entrepreneurs and boosting confidence. The grant will enhance production capacity, create new employment opportunities, and provide sustained support to the silk, textile, and garment sectors—directly benefiting local artisans and weavers.
This decision aligns with the vision repeatedly emphasized by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath—to transform Uttar Pradesh into a hub of industrial development. The move not only strengthens investor confidence but also reflects the government’s transparency and commitment to protecting the interests of investors.
