Pakistan’s Missile and Drone Attacks Trigger Blackouts and Tension in Jammu
Jammu : In a sharp escalation of tensions, Pakistan launched missile and drone attacks on multiple locations in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday night, just hours after its alleged plan to carry out terror strikes in 15 Indian cities was foiled.
Around 9 p.m., residents of Jammu reported hearing loud explosions, followed by emergency sirens and an unexpected power blackout across the city. Videos shared by eyewitnesses showed bright streaks in the sky, believed to be India’s air defense systems intercepting incoming missiles and drones.
The attacks weren’t limited to Jammu. Blackouts were also reported in Kupwara, Baramulla, and as far as Pathankot and Gurdaspur in Punjab — areas nearly 300 kilometers away — as authorities imposed power shutdowns for safety.
Simultaneously, heavy shelling by the Pakistan Army was reported along several sectors of the international border, including Samba, Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Reasi. Sources said the Jammu airport may have been among the targets. Drone activity was also reportedly observed near the border, though some reports remain unverified.
Shesh Paul Vaid, former Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir, posted on social media: “Complete blackout in Jammu. Loud explosions, suspected bombings, shelling, or missile attacks are being reported. Do not panic… Mata Vaishno Devi is with us, and so are our brave Indian Armed Forces.”
Security forces have been put on high alert, and authorities are urging people living in border areas to stay cautious as the situation remains tense. The Indian Armed Forces are closely monitoring developments and are expected to respond firmly to this provocation.
