Jay Vikas Takes Charge as First Commissioner of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation
DIBRUGARH : Marking a historic administrative milestone for the city, IAS officer Jay Vikas officially took charge as the first Commissioner of the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC) on Monday. His arrival at the DMC office was met with a warm reception from Mayor Dr Saikat Patra and other senior officials.
Jay Vikas, a 2021 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, was appointed through an official order issued by the Department of Personnel (Personnel-A), Assam Secretariat, Dispur. Prior to this role, he served as Co-District Commissioner of North Salmara. In addition to leading the DMC, he has also been designated Deputy Secretary to the Government of Assam, Department of Housing and Urban Affairs.
This significant appointment follows Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent commitment to appoint an IAS officer within a month to head the DMC, aiming to enhance governance and accelerate development efforts in the city.
With Jay Vikas now at the helm, Dibrugarh is expected to see improved administrative efficiency and targeted urban development initiatives aligned with the state government’s broader vision for the region.
Mayor Dr Saikat Patra extended his congratulations to the newly appointed Commissioner and expressed confidence that his leadership would usher in a new era of systematic planning and civic progress. The brief but symbolic ceremony underscored Dibrugarh’s growing importance as an urban and economic hub in Upper Assam.
