Yogi govt sets a benchmark in transparent land acquisition and farmer welfare

Gorakhpur : The Yogi Adityanath-led government has gone above and beyond to ensure the satisfaction and well-being of farmers who contributed land to transform the vision of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway—a major road connectivity project—into reality. As part of this initiative, compensation totaling Rs 2,030.29 crore has been disbursed to 22,029 farmers.

Recognizing their vital contribution, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally honored the farmers who provided land during the initial phase of the project. Their role will once again be acknowledged during the official inauguration of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway on Friday, June 20.

Land forms the foundation of both infrastructure and industrial development, and successful acquisition depends on mutual trust between farmers and the government. The Yogi government has set a new benchmark by ensuring timely, fair, and transparent compensation—winning the trust of farmers across the state.

The Chief Minister has consistently emphasised that farmers are not only providers of food, but also active contributors to the state’s development.

The impressive structure of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway stands today because of the land provided by farmers. For the construction of the 91.35-kilometre-long expressway connecting Gorakhpur to Azamgarh, approximately 1,148.77 hectares of land were acquired from farmers across 172 villages spread over four districts: Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh. The entire compensation process was executed transparently through DBT, ensuring that farmers received their dues promptly.

The spirit of cooperation displayed by the farmers played a crucial role in the project’s success. Any grievances that arose were addressed swiftly through open hearings and satisfactory resolutions. Acknowledging this support, the government held a special ceremony in January 2020 during the initial phase of construction. Organized in the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) area, the event saw the honoring of 500 farmers—of whom Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally felicitated 40.
