IDF Chief Declares Historic Counterstrike as Israel Targets Iran; Hezbollah Backs Tehran Amid U.S. Warnings

TEL AVIV : In a significant escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir announced on Thursday that Israel is using its own military capabilities to turn the tables on Iran, launching powerful strikes deep into Iranian territory. Addressing commanders and soldiers at the Intelligence Directorate’s research division, Zamir said Israel has effectively transformed Iran’s long-standing “ring of fire” strategy into a counteroffensive aimed directly at the Islamic Republic.

“We are now creating a ‘ring of fire’ — the very bulwark they constructed for years to attack us — and directing it back at them,” Zamir said, according to The Jerusalem Post. Praising the Intelligence Directorate for its “extraordinary and awe-inspiring capabilities,” he added, “What we are doing here is historic — we are changing the face of the Middle East.”

Zamir emphasized the admiration with which the global community is watching Israel’s unprecedented military campaign. “Every citizen of this country, and the entire world, is looking at you with respect. People ask how this is possible — and I say, miracles do happen. And the miracle-makers are people — you,” he told the troops.

According to reports, Israel’s campaign has targeted dozens of high-ranking Iranian officials. Major General Shlomi Binder revealed that the IDF struck the Quds Force with overwhelming force on the first night of the operation. “Two days ago, our forces, using exceptional intelligence and coordination, located and bombed one of the Iranian regime’s secret headquarters in the mountains,” Binder said.

Though some commanders fled the initial strike, Israeli forces pursued them. “Twelve hours later, we successfully targeted the Chief of Staff of Khatam al-Anbiya, who had escaped to another mountain range near Tehran,” Binder added. Approximately 30 top Iranian commanders have been targeted, some of whom have already been publicly identified.

“This threat is one that the State of Israel cannot and will not tolerate,” Binder said. “That’s why we launched this operation, and that’s why we are working swiftly to complete our mission.”

Hezbollah Declares Full Backing for Iran

Amid the intensifying conflict, Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem delivered a fiery speech on Thursday night pledging “all kinds of support” to Iran in its standoff with Israel and the United States. Qassem defended Iran’s nuclear program, describing it as peaceful and intended for scientific and social development.

“Iran’s nuclear efforts do not pose a threat to anyone. Instead, they mark a major scientific achievement that enhances Iran’s growth and that of the region,” Qassem said. He argued that global opposition to Iran is rooted not in fears of nuclear proliferation, but in Iran’s stance on “faith, knowledge, and freedom” and its support for oppressed communities.

Qassem was especially critical of U.S. President Donald Trump, accusing him of pushing the Middle East into turmoil. “The United States is leading the region into chaos and the world into open crises,” he said. “This will only bring Washington shame, humiliation, and eventual failure.”

He reaffirmed Hezbollah’s loyalty to Iran and its leadership. “Iran has the right to defend itself, and the peoples of the region — as well as all free people of the world — have the right to stand shoulder to shoulder with Iran and its great leader,” Qassem declared. “We stand with Iran’s independence, the liberation of its lands, and the freedom of its decisions.”

Calling for a global show of solidarity, Qassem urged “all free people, the oppressed, resistance fighters, scholars, and people of conscience” to unite behind Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “Let us show strength, courage, and unity in support of the most honorable leadership of Imam Khamenei,” he said.

U.S. Issues Sharp Warning to Hezbollah

The United States swiftly responded to Hezbollah’s statements. Visiting Beirut on Thursday, U.S. Special Envoy for Syria and Ambassador to Turkey Thomas Barrack issued a clear warning: it would be a “very, very, very bad decision” for Hezbollah to become actively involved in the Israel-Iran war.

After meeting Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, a political ally of Hezbollah, Barrack addressed the media. “I say this on behalf of President Trump and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff — Hezbollah joining the conflict would be disastrous,” he warned.

Washington has long pressured Lebanon to rein in Hezbollah, a group it designates as a terrorist organization. With the current conflict between Iran and Israel escalating rapidly, the U.S. fears that Hezbollah’s military engagement could open a wider and more destructive regional war.

As Israel’s offensive continues and Tehran signals defiance, the Middle East faces one of its most volatile moments in recent memory. The coming days may prove decisive, with global powers watching closely, weighing diplomatic options, and bracing for potential escalation.
