District-Level International Yoga Day Celebrated at Historic Sirpur
MP Roopkumari Chaudhary: “Yoga is a Priceless Legacy of Indian Culture; Sirpur’s UNESCO Listing Efforts Underway”
Raipur : The 11th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the historic and archaeological town of Sirpur, within the premises of the ancient Lakshman Temple. The district-level celebration was organized by the Archaeological Survey of India (Raipur Circle).
Member of Parliament Roopkumari Chaudhary attended as the chief guest. Also present were Chhattisgarh State Seed Corporation Chairman Chandrahas Chandrakar, District Scout and Guide President Yetram Sahu, Zila Panchayat President Mongra Patel, Municipal Vice-President of Mahasamund Devichand Rathi, District Collector Vinay Langeh, Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Singh, school students, rural residents, and youth.
The yoga session saw hundreds of students, public representatives, senior district officials, and staff members perform a variety of asanas. State Head of ASI, Mr. Muthaiyakkali Muthoot, was also present during the program.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Roopkumari Chaudhary emphasized that yoga is not merely a physical discipline, but a priceless cultural legacy of India that promotes the balance of body, mind, and soul. She highlighted the global significance of Yoga Day, thanks to the vision and efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who introduced the proposal at the United Nations in 2014, leading to June 21 being recognized worldwide.
She noted that 177 out of 193 UN member states supported the resolution, acknowledging yoga’s global impact. Chaudhary praised Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s leadership in bringing yoga to the grassroots and encouraged people to make yoga a part of their daily lives. She also practiced yoga alongside school students, motivating them to adopt it as a daily habit, especially for enhancing concentration during student life.
Seed Corporation Chairman Urges Integration of Yoga into Daily Routine
Chandrahas Chandrakar, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Seed Corporation, urged citizens across the state to adopt yoga as a daily lifestyle practice, declaring, “Do yoga, stay healthy – this is the true wealth of life.” He emphasized yoga as an inseparable part of Indian life and vital to achieving physical and mental well-being.
Efforts to Secure UNESCO World Heritage Status for Sirpur Continue
MP Chaudhary reaffirmed the ongoing efforts to include Sirpur on the UNESCO World Heritage List, underscoring its archaeological and historical significance. She expressed hope that the heritage town will soon gain international recognition.
To mark the occasion, cashew and mango trees were planted by dignitaries within the Lakshman Temple complex, aligning with the broader message of environmental harmony and sustainable living — a theme closely linked with the 2025 Yoga Day theme: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
