Kamthi to Become Drug-Free with Public Support – Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule
Anti-Drug Rally Led by Guardian Minister
Nagpur – In the past year, 30 major anti-narcotics operations were carried out in Kamthi taluka, resulting in the arrest of 60 individuals. Revenue and Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule urged the public to fearlessly report drug-related activities to the police and asserted that with the cooperation of citizens, Kamthi will be made drug-free.
As part of Operation Thunder-2025, Nagpur Police Commissionerate organized a public awareness program against drug abuse at Jaystambh Chowk in Kamthi. Minister Bawankule addressed the gathering, alongside Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Singhal, former Minister of State Adv. Sulekha Kumbhare, and DCP of Nagpur Police Zone 5 Niketan Kadam.
Bawankule stated that a silent war is being waged to destroy the youth by addicting them to narcotics. Those who fall prey to drug abuse often turn to crime to sustain their addiction. He warned that a conspiracy is underway in Kamthi city to entrap the youth in the clutches of drugs. To combat this, Nagpur Police has launched Operation Thunder. He urged the public to come forward without fear and report drug peddlers to the authorities.
He further announced that a new police station will soon be set up in Khapra and Jaripatka areas under Nagpur Police Zone 4, with a dedicated police outpost near the local vegetable market. Additionally, Kamthi city will be brought under 100% CCTV surveillance, enhancing law enforcement capabilities.
Commissioner Dr. Singhal shared that during Operation Thunder, contraband worth ₹8.65 crore was seized over the last 18 months. DCP Niketan Kadam delivered the welcome address, and Police Inspector Mahesh Andhale proposed the vote of thanks.
Following the event, under the leadership of Minister Bawankule, an anti-drug rally was conducted from Jaystambh Chowk to Goyal Talkies. The rally saw enthusiastic participation from students of various schools and colleges as well as representatives from social organizations. Prior to the rally, Minister Bawankule paid floral tribute to the statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at Jaystambh Chowk.
