Once a Source of Trouble, the Sun Now Brings Light and Relief
PM Surya Ghar Yojana Transforms Lives by Providing Free Solar Power
Raipur : There was a time when the onset of summer brought anxiety and discomfort, especially for families struggling with electricity shortages and soaring bills. For Mrs. Jyoti Anant, a resident of Katghora in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, the scorching heat once meant daily power cuts and unaffordable electricity bills. Fans and coolers stayed off for long hours, and the family constantly worried about rising expenses.
Today, the same sun that once caused distress has become a beacon of hope and energy for Jyoti’s family. Thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a Central Government initiative launched under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and implemented in Chhattisgarh under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, thousands of families like hers are now enjoying uninterrupted, cost-free electricity.
Under this scheme, Mrs. Anant installed solar panels on her rooftop and received a government subsidy of ₹78,000. Her family now powers all household appliances without worrying about consumption or outages. “Earlier, we used to ration electricity usage, yet still faced bills running into thousands,” she recalls. “The unpredictable power cuts disrupted everything.”
She first learned about the scheme from a neighbor, gathered detailed information, and registered on the official website. Within a short period, her rooftop solar system was up and running, bringing immediate and noticeable benefits. Whether the main power supply is on or off no longer matters—her home runs entirely on solar energy.
Mrs. Anant now calls summer a season of profit and comfort, not punishment. Her family not only meets its own electricity needs but also exports surplus energy back to the grid, gaining financial benefits in return. She proudly notes that the system is risk-free and eco-friendly, making it a powerful step towards environmental conservation and contributing to a Greener Chhattisgarh.
Encouraged by the positive change, she now actively advises others to adopt the scheme. “For middle-class families like ours, this plan is nothing short of a blessing,” she says. “It has helped solve power issues while also bringing balance to our household budget.”
She expresses her heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Sai for launching such a citizen-centric welfare initiative, and hopes that similar schemes continue to reach the masses in the future.
