Justice Michael Zothankhuma Inaugurates Legal Aid Clinics in Mizoram
Clinics at Cherhlun and North Vanlaiphai to offer free legal assistance to the underprivileged
Serchhip : Hon’ble Mr. Justice Michael Zothankhuma, Judge of the High Court of Mizoram and Executive Chairman of the Mizoram Legal Services Authority, today inaugurated Legal Aid Clinics at Cherhlun and North Vanlaiphai.
Speaking at the event, Justice Zothankhuma stated that the purpose of establishing these Legal Aid Clinics is to ensure that citizens, especially those who are poor, vulnerable, or unaware of their legal rights, can access justice. He emphasized that these clinics will serve as important centers for legal support where people can seek help for their grievances and issues.
He urged local leaders and community members to actively utilize and promote the services offered by the Legal Aid Clinics. “Even during times of difficulty or uncertainty, these clinics must remain open and accessible to the people,” he said, calling for continuous community engagement.
Justice Zothankhuma had also inaugurated similar Legal Aid Clinics a day earlier at Thingsai, Bualpui H, and Thiltlang. All clinics will be staffed and operated by trained Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) who will assist the public in navigating their legal concerns.
As part of his visit, Justice Zothankhuma also handed over quality silpaulin sheets to the Village Councils of Cherhlun and North Vanlaiphai to support local needs and welfare.
He was accompanied by Pu Vincent Lalrokima, Member Secretary of the Mizoram State Legal Services Authority, and Josangzeli Tlau, Secretary of the Serchhip District Legal Services Authority, both of whom played key roles in facilitating the event.
These initiatives reflect the judiciary’s commitment to making justice accessible to all, particularly in remote areas of Mizoram.
