Home Minister Reviews Fire & Emergency Services Department Operations

Aizawl : Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga chaired a departmental review meeting today at the Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES) Conference Hall, Hunthar. The session, held in a formal and cordial manner, included presentations on ongoing departmental initiatives, operational equipment, and staff responsibilities by officers of the F&ES.

In his address, Pu K. Sapdanga commended the F&ES Department for its vital work, particularly in responding to disasters and emergencies. He stressed the importance of maintaining readiness and resilience in times of crisis, and emphasized that the department’s role is not only crucial to urban safety but also essential for rural and remote communities.

The Home Minister also called on F&ES personnel to remain disciplined, prepared, and deeply committed to public service. He acknowledged their contributions as frontline responders during emergencies and expressed the government’s continued support for capacity building and improved infrastructure.

Home Secretary Pu Vanlalmawia, also present at the meeting, stated that the work of the F&ES Department was becoming increasingly important due to global challenges and evolving government structures. He pointed out that, in today’s complex environment, any form of disaster must be met with a “multidisciplinary, multi-hazard force”, requiring ongoing professional development and institutional strengthening.

During the review session, F&ES Director Pu C. Lalruaia gave a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the department’s achievements, coordination strategies, performance metrics, and preparedness as a multi-hazard response force. He also detailed the department’s collaboration with Home Guard and Civil Defence, and the key initiatives taken under the 15th Finance Commission’s Phase-I Grant-in-Aid.

Following the presentation, an interactive discussion was held. The Home Minister expressed his appreciation for the department’s efforts, while Joint Secretary (P), Pu PC Lalduhthlanga, delivered a vote of thanks.

As of now, the F&ES Department operates 14 fire stations, and is equipped with 47 fire tenders and 4 fire bikes. Procurement and improvements under the 15th Finance Commission were also highlighted during the session.
