Tamil Nadu Day to be Celebrated on July 18, 2025 in Thiruvavaduthurai
As declared by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 30.10.2021, July 18—the day on which scholar Anna (C.N. Annadurai) named our state “Tamil Nadu”—will be celebrated as Tamil Nadu Day. Accordingly, the Tamil Nadu Day celebration for the year 2025 will be held on Friday, 18.07.2025 at the T.N. Rajarathinam Auditorium, Muthamizh Peravai, Thiruvavaduthurai in Mayiladuthurai district.
Tamil Nadu Day is observed annually to honor the visionary leader who renamed our state and to celebrate Tamil heritage and identity. The Department of Tamil Development has organized this year’s event with a variety of cultural and intellectual programs.
The event will be presided over by Director of Tamil Development Department Mr. Arul, with Mr. V. Rajaraman, IAS, Secretary of Tamil Development and Information Department, delivering the welcome address.
A seminar will be conducted under the chairmanship of Mr. J. Rajamurthy. Topics include:
- “Scholar Anna and Tamil” by Advocate T. Ramalingam
- “Let’s Work for Tamil Every Day, Not Just One Day” by Kalaimamani Mrs. Mangayarkarasi
- “Write Tamil with Himalayan Integrity” by Poet Pandian Jayantha
- “Tamil Nadu: A Cultural and Historical Identity” by Mrs. Prakasha Mani
Special guests delivering greetings include Member of Parliament Mrs. Thamizhachi Thangapandian and Mylapore MLA Mr. T. Velu.
Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Development and Information Mr. M.P. Saminathan will award prizes to winners of the state-level Tamil essay and speech competitions. The winners include:
Essay Competition:
- 1st Prize: M. Afrin (Namakkal District) – ₹50,000 and Certificate
- 2nd Prize: K.G. Jayashree (Tirupathur District) – ₹30,000 and Certificate
- 3rd Prize: E. Magadarshini (Kallakurichi District) – ₹20,000 and Certificate
Speech Competition:
- 1st Prize: P. Jeevakani (Namakkal District) – ₹50,000 and Certificate
- 2nd Prize: R. Muthu Meenakshi (Theni District) – ₹30,000 and Certificate
- 3rd Prize: K. Hariharan Suthan (Thirupuvanam District) – ₹20,000 and Certificate
Additionally, the Government will provide financial assistance to 100 senior Tamil scholars.
The program will conclude with a vote of thanks by Ms. G.P. Sathiyapriya, Director of the Tamil Development Department.
