CM Bhagwant Singh Mann: Punjab Will Be Developed as the Semiconductor Hub of India
Punjab Government Committed to Building a Strong Semiconductor Ecosystem — Enormous Potential for the Industry in the State
Chandigarh : Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today stated that the Punjab Government is fully committed to making every possible effort to develop a robust semiconductor ecosystem in the state.
Chairing a meeting with representatives of the semiconductor industry in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of semiconductor chips in modern technology, noting that they are an essential component of nearly all electronic devices. He further emphasized that semiconductors enable a vast range of functions — from fundamental technological transformations to cutting-edge advancements.
Highlighting the immense potential of the semiconductor sector, CM Mann said the industry is currently contributing to the national economy with an annual growth rate of 20 to 23 percent. He added that semiconductors are critical to industries such as electronics, automotive, industrial automation, telecommunications, aerospace and defense, energy and power, medical devices, data centers and cloud computing, smart devices, artificial intelligence, and many more.
The Chief Minister also noted that India is rapidly emerging as a key hub for semiconductors, with growing capabilities in chip fabrication units, chip design, Electronic Design Automation (EDA) services, and related sectors.
CM Mann stressed that Punjab holds tremendous potential in this domain and affirmed that the state government is determined to fully leverage these opportunities to drive Punjab toward accelerated economic growth. He assured the industry of complete support, including the establishment of a dedicated semiconductor park in Mohali and its surrounding areas.
He added that Punjab offers an industry-friendly environment, skilled human resources, and other essential infrastructure, making it an ideal destination for semiconductor investment. Mann stated that this industry will not only boost industrial development but will also create high-quality employment opportunities for the youth.
Present at the meeting were Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora, Industry Secretary K.K. Yadav, Invest Punjab CEO Amit Dhaka, and other senior officials.
