Chief Minister Stalin Inaugurates Projects Worth ₹18.44 Crore and Lays Foundation for ₹91.42 Crore Urban Development Works

Chennai, Aug 25: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin today inaugurated four completed infrastructure projects worth ₹18.44 crore and laid the foundation stone for 26 new urban development initiatives with an estimated budget of ₹91.42 crore under the aegis of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).

During the event held at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister inaugurated a beautified park and walkway at Serumangalam, Kolathur, developed at a cost of ₹6.94 crore. Additionally, beautification works in Villivakkam, Padi, and Retteri areas, undertaken under flyover projects at an expense of ₹11.50 crore, were also inaugurated. These projects aim to enhance public spaces with modern amenities, including indoor badminton courts, tennis courts, open gyms, children’s play areas, walking tracks, and lush green lawns.

In line with the vision to transform urban localities into world-class spaces, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for several key initiatives. These include:

  • Construction of 13 multipurpose community halls in 13 localities across Chennai at a cost of ₹31.11 crore.
  • Renovation of Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar Ayodhya Mandapam and Mangadu Government Schools with a budget of ₹3 crore.
  • Upgradation of six Adi Dravidar welfare schools in Ennore, Pulianthope, Chengalpattu, and Saidapet at an estimated cost of ₹2.36 crore.
  • Establishment of modern, air-conditioned bus shelters with digital displays at Royapuram, Perambur, and Tollgate for ₹3.84 crore.
  • Development of a traditional crafts market hub in Royapettah, including shops, exhibition halls, eateries, and other facilities with a budget allocation of ₹32.66 crore.
  • Beautification of the Marina Loop Road stretch from Santhome to the Lighthouse, creating pedestrian pathways, sitting areas, and eco-friendly amenities at a cost of ₹18.45 crore.

In total, 26 new urban development projects amounting to ₹91.42 crore were initiated to improve civic infrastructure, enhance urban aesthetics, and create vibrant public spaces in Greater Chennai.

Present at the event were Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Mr. P.K. Sekarbabu, CMDA Chairman, Chief Secretary Mr. N. Muruganandam IAS, Additional Chief Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Ms. Kakarla Usha IAS, Member-Secretary of CMDA Mr. Ko. Prashanth IAS, and senior government officials.
