Curb Encroachments in Aarey Colony, No New Construction Permits – Dairy Development Minister Atul Save
Mumbai, Aug 2025 : Dairy Development Minister Atul Save has instructed that strict action be taken to curb encroachments in the Aarey Colony area and that the Municipal Corporation should not grant permissions for any new constructions in the region.
Former MP Kirit Somaiya had submitted a memorandum requesting environmental conservation of the Aarey Colony, protection against encroachments, and rehabilitation of slum dwellers in the area. In response, a meeting was held at the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) office under the chairmanship of Minister Atul Save to discuss the issue.
Present at the meeting were former MP Kirit Somaiya, MITRA CEO Pravin Pardeshi, MHADA CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, SRA CEO Mahendra Kalyankar, Municipal Corporation Assistant Commissioner Ajay Patne, and other senior officials.
Minister Save stated that over 15,000 residents currently live in the Aarey Colony area. Large amounts of waste are being dumped on vacant lands, and widespread encroachments are taking place. He emphasized that these encroachments must be halted immediately and directed that private security agencies be deployed to control the situation.
He further instructed that MHADA, SRA, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, and the Dairy Development Department should work in coordination for the planned development of the area. The Municipal Corporation should formulate a model operating procedure to ensure no godowns or construction permits are granted in the Aarey Colony. Minister Save also stressed the need for the Municipal Corporation to take strict action against violations.
