Tamil Nadu CM Launches “State Education Policy 2025 – School Education”; Laptops and Certificates Awarded to Government School Students Entering Premier Institutions
Chennai, Aug 2025 — Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today unveiled the “Tamil Nadu State Education Policy 2025 – School Education” at a function held at the Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram. The new policy is designed to prepare students for the future by integrating cutting-edge subjects such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and financial planning into school curricula, alongside promoting critical thinking, innovation, and digital literacy.
The policy emphasises developing skills for future-ready citizens, moving away from rote learning towards inquiry, creativity, and cultural appreciation. It also introduces programs such as TN-SPARK to foster technological aptitude, inclusive classrooms, accessible infrastructure, assistive technologies, and performance evaluation based on growth-oriented assessments like projects, oral tests, peer feedback, and portfolios. Physical education, folk arts, and cultural activities are incorporated to ensure holistic learning.
As part of the event, laptops and certificates of appreciation were presented to 901 government school students who secured admission to 93 premier higher education institutions across 50 disciplines in the current academic year, including 150 differently-abled students. The Chief Minister also honoured teachers who significantly contributed to this achievement with mementos and certificates.
Over the past three years, 977 students from government schools have entered top institutions, including IITs, medical colleges, forensic science centres, aerospace technology institutes, tourism universities, and renowned colleges like St. Xavier’s, Delhi University, and Azim Premji University. Notably, the number of government school students joining IITs has risen to 27 this year.
Special coaching and guidance programs have also been implemented for orphaned students, differently-abled students, and those from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. These initiatives have increased the percentage of government school students progressing to higher education after Class 12 to 75%, a figure expected to rise further this year.
The event was attended by senior ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian, Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and other dignitaries.
