Nitish Kumar’s Son Sparks Political Buzz: Will Nishant Step Into Bihar’s Power Arena?

Patna, Aug 2025 – Bihar’s political circles are abuzz with fresh speculation after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a public meeting for Sunday evening, fuelling talk of his son Nishant Kumar’s possible political debut.

Posters promoting the event have sprung up around the Janata Dal (United) headquarters in Patna, highlighting Nishant’s participation. The 40-year-old, Nitish Kumar’s only son, has so far kept his political ambitions under wraps, though he has hinted at wanting to continue his father’s legacy.

According to the posters, Nishant will “share his views on the public welfare schemes launched by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar” during the gathering. The event has drawn attention from across party lines, with leaders like RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and Union Minister Chirag Paswan publicly stating they would “welcome” Nishant into politics if he chooses to take the plunge.

However, many remain sceptical, pointing to Nitish Kumar’s repeated criticism of “dynastic politics” and his insistence that his son would not join public life until he steps down from active politics. This has not stopped rumours from swirling—particularly since Holi this year, when Nishant publicly lauded his father’s governance record and urged voters to give him another term.

Around that time, posters calling Nishant the JD(U)’s “new hope” appeared in Patna. Reports also suggested he could be fielded from Harnaut, the assembly seat once held by his father.

Adding another twist, Tejashwi Yadav recently alleged that a faction within JD(U), allegedly aligned with the BJP, was blocking Nishant’s entry. According to him, this group fears that the party’s long-term strength could weaken if it becomes too dependent on the Kumar family’s political appeal.

As Sunday’s meeting approaches, the big question lingers—will Nishant Kumar finally step into Bihar’s high-stakes political arena, or will the speculation fade once again?
