Mahataari Vandan Yojana is Transforming the Lives of Women in Chhattisgarh

Under the Good Governance of Vishnu Deo Sai, Women are Becoming Self-Reliant and Empowered

Raipur, Aug 2025 : With the aim of ensuring the economic self-reliance of women, improving their health and nutritional levels, and strengthening their decisive role in the family, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has implemented the Mahataari Vandan Yojana in Chhattisgarh. Under this scheme, eligible married, widowed, and divorced women are provided monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 directly into their bank accounts.

Guided by Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Rajwade, this scheme is helping reduce discrimination and inequality against women in the state, while moving them towards economic empowerment and self-reliance. Currently, more than 6.919 million women in Chhattisgarh are benefiting from this initiative. In Narayanpur district alone, over 27,000 women receive more than ₹2.78 crore every month, including 3,687 women from the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG).

Hiramani Nag, a resident of Koliari village in Narayanpur district, shares that her household’s financial condition was weak earlier. However, with the ₹1,000 she receives under the Mahataari Vandan Yojana, she is now able to meet household needs and cover her children’s education expenses with ease. The quality of food in her household has also improved, and she no longer needs to borrow money.

Similarly, Bhuneshwari Baghel from Benoor village, a homemaker and grocery store owner, says that this scheme helps her manage expenses for her children’s education, school uniforms, essential household needs, and goods for her shop. She has also opened a Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account for her daughter’s future and has started depositing money in it regularly.

The stories of these two women prove that with the right guidance and a little support, women can stand on their own feet and become the backbone of their family’s economy. The Mahataari Vandan Yojana is writing a new chapter of prosperity and self-reliance in the lives of millions of women in Chhattisgarh.
