New Delhi, Aug 2025 : The Aam Aadmi Party, holding the failure of BJP’s four-engine government responsible for Delhi repeatedly flooding during rains and for the loss of lives of Delhiites, has demanded the resignation of PWD Minister Parvesh Verma. On Thursday, after a short spell of rain caused waterlogging in every area of Delhi – including Daryaganj, APS Colony, Chhatarpur, Greater Kailash, Dhaula Kuan, and Outer Ring Road – AAP leaders questioned the BJP government’s proper management and strongly criticised it. After a biker died on the spot when a tree fell on him in South Delhi’s Hansraj Sethi Marg, AAP leaders said BJP government’s failure is proving deadly for Delhiites.
AAP’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal expressed deep grief over the incident, sharing its video on X, and said: In just a few months, what condition have BJP people made of Delhi?
Saurabh Bharadwaj shared the video of the biker’s death on X, saying: In South Delhi’s Hansraj Sethi Marg, due to heavy rainfall, a tree fell and crushed a poor biker to death on the spot. Till now, about 2 dozen people have died due to heavy rains. But the BJP government does not care. People are dying in every rain. On Rakhi festival, sisters kept waiting for their 2.5-year-old brother, and that poor boy died after falling into an open sewer manhole. Will this Delhi government wake up? He also shared a video of a man rowing a boat on the waterlogged streets of Greater Kailash, saying: Well, in the four-engine government, boats are now running in Greater Kailash too. That is why, despite High Court orders, the BJP’s four-engine government is running away from third-party audit of desilting contracts.
Ankush Narang, Leader of Opposition in MCD from AAP, posted on X: Despite full planning and proper management by BJP government’s CM Rekha Gupta and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Delhi is waterlogged everywhere, the entire city is drowned. In another post, he said: The result of their full planning and proper management is that the whole of Delhi is waterlogged.
Meanwhile, in a press conference at AAP headquarters, MLA Sanjeev Jha said that after the BJP formed the government in Delhi, CM Rekha Gupta and her cabinet ministers made tall claims. Many times in press conferences and releases, it was claimed that all waterlogging spots in Delhi had been identified and there would be no waterlogging this monsoon. But today again, after rain, it became difficult for people to move on Delhi’s roads. Streets turned into rivers, people were forced to row boats.
Sanjeev Jha said the BJP used to say that a double-engine government would solve all Delhi’s problems. But now, no matter how many engines the government has, rain has washed away all their claims. Since May, over two dozen people have died due to rain. In the last rains, in Badarpur’s Jaitpur area, 8 people died after a wall collapsed. This time, in Kalkaji, a man died after a tree fell. On Raksha Bandhan, a 2.5-year-old child died after falling into an open manhole. On May 25 in Kalkaji itself, a 9-year-old child died due to electrocution from an open electricity panel.
Sanjeev Jha asked: Does the BJP government, which makes reels for publicity, have no accountability for these deaths? Delhi’s PWD Minister Parvesh Verma makes reels every day, but the families who lost loved ones hold him responsible, as these deaths happened due to the government’s failure. The biggest reason is that despite big talks, drains in Delhi have not been cleaned. The Delhi High Court had ordered a third-party audit of drain cleaning, but it was not done. I claim that more than half of Delhi’s drains have not been cleaned.
He further said that in the Burari constituency, PWD and Flood Control & Irrigation Department’s drain cleaning was nothing but a joke. Earlier, super sucker machines were used for cleaning drains, but this time not even one was deployed anywhere. On Wednesday, when I was inspecting my area, I asked officials why super suckers weren’t used. Their reply was: this time, no permission was granted. So, why is PWD Minister Parvesh Verma not responsible for these deaths?
Sanjeev Jha said to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta that the people of Delhi should not have to pay the price for the failures of her government and cabinet. The Aam Aadmi Party demands that PWD Minister Parvesh Verma (who also holds the flood control department) should be asked to resign immediately. Due to his failure, Delhi gets waterlogged even with light rain, and more than two dozen people have already died. If people are losing their lives due to his negligence, he has no right to remain a minister.
