Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde Positive About Relaxing 20 Hectare Cultivation Area Requirement for Fruit Crops.
Mumbai : Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde stated that the government is actively engaged in a court battle to secure crop insurance benefits for the farmers of Dharashiv district under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Yojana for the Kharif seasons of 2020 and 2021.
In Kharif season 2020, 3 lakh 98 thousand eligible farmers of Dharashiv district had paid for soybean crop insurance. Out of these, 64 thousand farmers were sanctioned Rs 87 crores through the insurance company, while the claims of the remaining farmers were rejected on technical grounds. The affected farmers have filed a Public Interest Litigation in the High Court. Agriculture Department officials and representatives of the Crop Insurance Company attended the review meeting held at the Ministry. MLA Rana Jagjit Singh Patil participated via video communication. Minister Munde assured that the government is vigorously pursuing the court battle and that eligible farmers will benefit from it.
Government Positive About Fruit Crop Insurance Scheme
MLA Abhimanyu Pawar had requested a relaxation of the 20-hectare cultivation area requirement for under-cultivated notified fruit crops under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme, proposing the determination of the taluka area for fruit crops instead. Minister Munde assured that the government is positive about this demand and will follow up with the central government to implement it. MLA Pawar also participated in the meeting through remote visual communication.
