Devotional Welcome for Lord Ganesha in Delhi

MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde Performs Idol Consecration; Maharashtra Sadan and Ganesh Mandals Reverberate with Festive Spirit

New Delhi, Aug 2025: The beloved Lord Ganesha arrived in the national capital today amidst chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and the beats of traditional dhol-tasha. MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde formally performed the consecration of the idol at Maharashtra Sadan. Ganesh Mandals across Delhi and the National Capital Region welcomed Lord Ganesha in a devotional atmosphere. With Ganeshotsav now accorded the status of a State Festival in Maharashtra, Marathi residents in Delhi are celebrating with even greater enthusiasm. For the next ten days, the capital will witness devotion, excitement, and vibrant Marathi cultural festivities.

Ganesha Welcomed at Maharashtra Sadan

On behalf of the Public Ganeshotsav Committee at Maharashtra Sadan, MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde conducted the idol consecration ceremony. Present on the occasion were Resident Commissioner R. Vimala, Additional Resident Commissioner Niva Jain, Assistant Resident Commissioner Smita Shelar, Deputy Director of Maharashtra Information Centre Manisha Pingle, along with several officials, staff, and devotees. The morning procession on Copernicus Marg echoed with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” and “Mangalmurti Morya.” The consecration was carried out with grandeur amidst the sound of drums and traditional Vedic mantras.

Dr. Shinde remarked that the welcome of Lord Ganesha has once again highlighted Marathi culture in Delhi, calling the festival a unique blend of devotion and cultural magnificence. Resident Commissioner R. Vimala said that the enthusiasm of Ganeshotsav at Maharashtra Sadan will infuse the entire capital with cultural vibrancy.

Exhibition and Self-Help Group Stalls at Maharashtra Sadan

MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde also visited the exhibition and sales stalls organized by self-help groups in the premises of Maharashtra Sadan on the occasion of Ganeshotsav. Appreciating the initiative, he noted that these stalls, showcasing Marathi culture, handicrafts, and traditions, have added a special charm to this year’s celebration. “This festival not only brings the Marathi community together but also introduces other communities in Delhi to Marathi culture,” he said. These stalls have provided a platform for local artisans and small entrepreneurs, giving Marathi handicrafts wider recognition in Delhi.

Devotional Spirit in Ganesh Mandals

Ganesh Mandals across Delhi and the NCR welcomed Lord Ganesha with devotional fervor, accompanied by the beats of dhol-tasha and chants of devotion. The recognition of Ganeshotsav as a State Festival has doubled the enthusiasm of the Marathi community, who have once again proudly asserted their cultural identity through these celebrations.

Cultural Extravaganza

Ganeshotsav in Delhi will also be marked by a host of cultural programs. Various Marathi Mandals have lined up performances that showcase Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage, including traditional Lavani dances, plays, musical evenings, zanj pathak (cymbal troupes), kirtan, devotional music sessions, and Marathi theater productions. With enthusiastic participation from devotees, Delhi will remain immersed in devotion and festivity for the next ten days.
