- Delhiites expected security and development from BJP’s four-engine government, but it has failed miserably – Atishi
New Delhi, Aug 2025 : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a scathing attack on the BJP and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over the brutal murder of a sevadar at the Kalkaji temple. Senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, has written a letter to CM Rekha Gupta, demanding her immediate resignation.
Atishi said the savage killing of sevadar Yogendra Singh has exposed the complete breakdown of law and order in Delhi. “Criminals have no fear of the police because the BJP’s so-called four-engine government has failed. If CM Rekha Gupta cannot ensure the safety of Delhi’s people, she should step down,” she stated.
In her letter, Atishi highlighted the steadily deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital. She noted that citizens no longer feel safe in their homes, markets, or even places of worship. Referring to the Kalkaji temple incident, she pointed out that 5–6 men mercilessly beat the sevadar to death over a trivial dispute about prasad. “The entire incident was caught on camera. This is not just one crime—it is proof that Delhi’s law and order system has collapsed,” she said.
She further mentioned that even as she was writing the letter, reports emerged of unidentified assailants firing at a property dealer’s house after he refused to pay a ₹5 crore extortion demand. Atishi also recalled several shocking incidents in August alone:
- On August 10, a triple murder in Mehrauli.
- On August 8, actress Huma Qureshi’s cousin Asif Qureshi was killed in a parking dispute in Nizamuddin.
- In IP Extension, barely 200 meters from the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s office, a young man was stabbed during a robbery attempt.
Atishi also referred to the recent attack on CM Rekha Gupta herself, saying: “These threats are not limited to ordinary citizens—even the Chief Minister herself has been attacked. If the CM is not safe, imagine the condition of common people.”
Expressing alarm, Atishi said the most shocking fact was that senior Delhi Police officers were addressing gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as “sir.” “It appears that criminals like Lawrence have become the real ‘bosses’ for the police. What more proof is needed to show that law and order is in the grip of criminals, and the police have been reduced to helpless bystanders?” she remarked.
The AAP leader slammed the BJP’s much-touted “four-engine government” (Central Government, LG, Delhi Police, and State Government under BJP) for its failure. “People had hoped that BJP’s four engines would accelerate security and development. Instead, all four engines have jammed. Today, Delhi has become the capital of murder, loot, extortion, and gang wars. Criminals strike fearlessly in broad daylight while the police only go through the motions,” Atishi said.
Concluding her letter, Atishi told CM Rekha Gupta: “The time has come for you and your government to move beyond speeches and show real accountability. The people of Delhi are asking—how long will they remain unsafe? How long will criminals keep striking openly? If you cannot guarantee security to Delhiites, then you have no right to stay in power. It would be better if you resign. The people now want action, not excuses.”
