Dhaka University’s Newly Elected VP Shadik Kayem Calls Victory a Mandate of Students

Dhaka, Sept 2025 : Newly elected vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), Shadik Kayem, has urged that his election be seen not as a personal triumph or the success of any political faction, but as a clear mandate given by the students.

“This is not a victory of any camp, nor of Shadik or Farhad. It is essentially the victory of the students,” he told reporters following the announcement of the results on Thursday morning. He emphasized that students had exercised their right to vote freely for candidates they deemed most deserving, and those securing the highest votes were duly declared winners.

Shadik clarified that his election is not an individual achievement. “Being elected as general secretary is not a personal accomplishment, nor does it belong to the student group I am associated with. It is a responsibility entrusted by the students of Dhaka University. Fundamentally, this is their victory,” he said.

Acknowledging the weight of the mandate, Shadik stressed the importance of accountability. “From today until the completion of my term, every student of Dhaka University will serve as my adviser. If I make mistakes or stray from the right path, I urge students to correct me immediately, even through criticism. That guidance will help me fulfill my responsibilities effectively,” he added. He further called for continuous support and advice to meet the expectations of the student body.

Rejecting any notion of celebratory events, the newly elected VP said the victory should be approached with humility. “We do not plan to hold processions or rallies. This is not a time for celebration but a test of whether we can protect the trust placed in us,” he remarked. He asked well-wishers across the country to convey their support through prayers and expressions of gratitude rather than public festivities.

Shadik highlighted that the true reflection of the win would be in their work and commitment to represent students faithfully. “From today, we want to work as brothers and sisters of every student, from Charukola to Islamic Studies, from Jagannath Hall to Ruqayyah Hall and Zia Hall. We will represent every student, regardless of differences during or before the election,” he said, reiterating a message of unity and shared responsibility.
