Millet Outlets Gain Popularity Across Rajasthan: Cooperative Department Achieves 4.5 Times Target, Boosts Cooperative Societies’ Income
Jaipur, Sept 2025 : The Cooperative Department of Rajasthan has achieved remarkable success in promoting millet outlets across the state, surpassing its set target by over 4.5 times. As of now, 152 millet outlets have been established, significantly beyond the target of 34 fixed for September. These outlets, opened at the level of Gram Seva Cooperative Societies and other cooperatives, are rapidly gaining popularity among the public, with more and more people adopting Shri Anna (millets) in their daily diet.
Principal Government Secretary and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Smt. Manju Rajpal, informed that the original plan was to open 34 millet outlets through CONFED and district cooperative consumer stores by the end of September. However, due to overwhelming interest from cooperative societies and a positive response from citizens, 152 outlets have already been launched. Apart from CONFED and consumer stores, purchase–sale cooperatives and Gram Seva Cooperative Societies are actively opening millet outlets across the state.
She added that in line with the state budget announcement, these outlets aim to increase the availability and reach of millet-based products, encourage millet consumption, and generate employment opportunities through the sale of products made by self-help groups under the Cooperative Department and Rajeevika. On 17 July, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah inaugurated 64 millet outlets during the Sahkar Evam Rojgar Utsav.
At these outlets, consumers can purchase millets and millet-based products at fair prices. Along with cooperative societies, women’s self-help groups under Rajeevika are also supplying their products for sale. Popular items available include sawan, kutki, kodo, kangni, choti kangni, millet mix, roasted jowar, roasted bajra, ragi biscuits, oats biscuits, cookies, millet daliya, ragi flakes, and roasted millet flakes. Rajpal noted that under the vision of Prosperity through Cooperation, this innovation is steadily becoming a success, simultaneously boosting the income of cooperative societies.
According to Hanuman Agarwal, Manager (Marketing) of CONFED, sales at the millet outlet in the CONFED store at Nehru Sahkar Bhavan have seen a sharp rise, with monthly sales now reaching around ₹1.5 lakh. Millet biscuits, roasted millet snacks, millet noodles, and millet poha are in particularly high demand, especially among health-conscious consumers.
Similarly, Abhitesh Miglani, Super Bazar In-charge of the Sriganganagar Cooperative Consumer Wholesale Store, reported that millet outlets are witnessing steady growth in sales since their launch, with average monthly sales of around ₹10,000. Roasted products such as roasted jowar, bajra, and ragi, along with cookies and multigrain flour, are proving especially popular.
In Alwar district, the Ramgarh Adarsh Gram Seva Cooperative Society launched a millet outlet about two months ago and has already recorded sales of nearly ₹30,000. Earlier, consumers had to travel to Alwar city to buy millet products, but now they are available locally. People also trust the authenticity of these products due to their cooperative association.
Likewise, Nahar Singh, an employee of the Kumher Purchase–Sale Cooperative Society, shared that their millet outlet began operations last month and is already attracting increasing numbers of customers. Millet mix flour and whole grains are in high demand, and more product varieties will be introduced soon to meet growing consumer interest.
This initiative is proving to be both a health-conscious movement and a revenue booster for cooperatives, making millet outlets a vital innovation in Rajasthan’s cooperative sector.
