Paddy cultivation using Sri method
Under the guidance of the district administration, special efforts are being made to increase production by motivating the farmers of our district to sow paddy by the “Shri method” instead of traditional paddy cultivation. This year, the Agriculture Department has set a target of sowing paddy by the Shri method in 600 hectares across the district. Along with this, special efforts are being made to increase productivity by using green manure in 1200 hectares of area.
According to sources received from the Agriculture Department, in order to encourage the farmers of the district to sow paddy by the “Shri method”, paddy has been sown by the “Shri method” in 540 hectares of area so far. And by cultivating by the “Shri method”, the production will be about two to two and a half times more. For this, farmers are being constantly motivated. Farmers of the district’s development block Geedam and Dantewada area are showing more interest in farming by this method.
Sowing by the “Shri method” not only requires less water, but also the chances of disease in the crop are also less in farming by this method. Apart from this, fertilizers and chemical medicines, pesticides are not used in sowing of ”Shri method”. Instead ”Green Manure” has been used.
Currently, due to good rain conditions in the district, farmers have got a favorable opportunity to cultivate with ”Shri method”. In this regard, the Agriculture Department is giving complete information to the farmers from preparation of cultivation to planting of plants. Along with this, information is also being given about weed control. In this regard, it was informed that till last year, farmers used to cultivate paddy with ”Shri method” in only one hundred and fifty hectares in the district. Whereas this year the area of paddy cultivation has been increased with Sri method.
Other benefits of sowing with ”Shri method” also include more production with less seeds. Apart from this, the cost of cultivating paddy is also less. While 50 to 60 kg of seeds are required in one hectare in traditional farming, the seed requirement in paddy cultivation with ”Shri method” is only five to six kg. In such a situation, farmers will get more production with less seeds. The “Shri method” also affects production.
