India Elected to INTERPOL Asian Committee, Strengthening Regional Cooperation on Transnational Crime

Singapore, Sept 2025 : India has been elected as a member of the INTERPOL Asian Committee for the 2025–2029 term, a development that underscores its commitment to regional cooperation in combating pressing challenges such as drug trafficking, cybercrime, terrorism, and human trafficking. The election took place at the 25th INTERPOL Asian Regional Conference in Singapore.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, announcing the development on X, stated: “Committed to addressing shared challenges. India has been elected as a member of the INTERPOL Asian Committee for the term 2025–29 at the 25th INTERPOL Asian Conference in Singapore. India’s membership underscores its commitment to regional cooperation to address common challenges like drug trafficking, cybercrime, terrorism and human trafficking.”

The election process involved multiple rounds of voting, highlighting the significance of India’s growing role in international policing. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which functions as the National Central Bureau (NCB) of INTERPOL in India, emphasized that this achievement marks a milestone in India’s engagement with international law enforcement cooperation.

As the NCB, the CBI is responsible for coordinating requests related to INTERPOL notices, including Red Notices, and operates the Bharatpol portal, which facilitates seamless interaction between Indian law enforcement agencies and INTERPOL channels.

According to an official statement, the INTERPOL Asian Committee plays a key advisory role, assisting the Asian Regional Conference in carrying out its mandate. The Committee identifies regional strategic priorities in the fight against crime, addresses police cooperation issues specific to Asia, and ensures deliberations are grounded in a clear understanding of strategic and operational challenges.

India’s membership, the statement added, will further strengthen collective efforts against organized crime, enhance cyber resilience, and improve coordination in tackling human trafficking, terrorism, and the illicit drug trade. This step also aligns with INTERPOL’s Global Policing Goals and highlights India’s proactive role in shaping regional and global security frameworks.

The CBI noted that India’s election reflects a long tradition of Indian representation at senior levels within INTERPOL and further consolidates its leadership role in global law enforcement and transnational security issues.

The Committee will convene annually to discuss regional security challenges and guide coordinated strategies among member countries. India was represented at the Singapore conference by a CBI delegation.

The victory, officials said, was the outcome of a coordinated diplomatic effort involving Indian embassies, high commissions, and the NCB-India, which secured broad support from partner nations through bilateral and multilateral outreach.
