US Deploys 200 Troops to Israel to Monitor Gaza Ceasefire
Washington, Oct 2025 : The United States is sending approximately 200 troops to Israel to monitor and oversee the recently agreed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, US officials reported.
A senior US official said the task force’s primary responsibility will be to “oversee, observe, and ensure there are no violations” of the ceasefire agreement. Members of the Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish armed forces will also be embedded with the US team, Xinhua news agency reported.
The troops will remain in Israel and will support logistics, transportation, engineering, and operational planning. “They will not be in Gaza. No US boots on the ground in Gaza,” the official emphasized.
The ceasefire deal, announced by former US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social network, marks a major step toward what he described as “Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace.” As part of the agreement, both sides will carry out a hostage-prisoner exchange, which is expected to release around 20 Israeli hostages believed to be alive, as well as return the remains of others who have died.
The Israeli government, through Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, confirmed approval of the historic agreement, which follows a devastating two-year conflict that drew global attention and condemnation. The ceasefire is expected to take effect within 24 hours.
US officials indicated that American troops could begin deployment to Israel immediately. Their mission will also include facilitating humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza and supporting a deconfliction mechanism to ensure that both Israel and Hamas adhere strictly to the terms of the ceasefire and security arrangements.
This deployment underscores the US commitment to stabilizing the region while maintaining a strictly observational role without engaging in combat operations in Gaza.
