Authorities Fence 38 Acres of Government Land in Pet Basheerabad to Prevent Encroachment

Hyderabad, Oct 2025 : Authorities have initiated strong measures to protect valuable government land allotted to journalists in Pet Basheerabad, located in Quthbullapur Mandal of Medchal–Malkajgiri district, following reports of rising encroachments and illegal constructions.

On Wednesday, officials from the Hyderabad District Revenue and Administration Authority (HYDRAA) erected fencing around 38 acres of land situated in Survey Number 25/2 to safeguard the property from further encroachment.

The Telangana government had originally allotted this 38-acre parcel in 2008 to the Jawaharlal Nehru Journalists’ Mutually Aided Cooperative Housing Society for developing housing plots for journalists. However, the project was halted after certain individuals challenged the allotment in court. As the matter remains sub judice, the land continues to be under government possession and within the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

In recent weeks, representatives of the journalists’ housing society, along with officials from the Revenue and HMDA departments, lodged formal complaints with HYDRAA, alleging that illegal constructions were being carried out on the site.

Responding to these complaints, HYDRAA Commissioner A. V. Ranganath ordered a joint inspection involving teams from the Revenue, Municipal, and HMDA departments. The inspection confirmed that portions of the land had indeed been encroached upon. Acting swiftly, officials fenced off the remaining open land, excluding already occupied houses.

During the operation, some local residents reportedly attempted to resist the officials’ actions. HYDRAA authorities clarified that their purpose was solely to secure government property until the court delivers its judgment on the land ownership dispute. They reiterated that no new construction or encroachment would be permitted on the disputed site.

Commissioner Ranganath stated that a review meeting would soon be convened with residents who have already built houses on the land to examine their ownership and documentation records. The meeting will include officials from the Revenue, HMDA, and Municipal departments, ensuring transparency and accountability in the verification process.

He further emphasized that the fencing was a preventive measure to maintain the integrity of the government land and to ensure that any future development occurs only in accordance with the court’s final ruling.
