New C-Band Radar Approved for Parbhani Division – Minister of State Meghana Sakore-Bordikar

Mumbai, Oct 2025 : Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh has informed through an official letter that the Central Government has approved the proposal to install a new C-Band radar in the Parbhani division under the ‘Mission Mausam’ scheme. Minister of State for Public Health & Family Welfare and Water Supply, Meghana Sakore-Bordikar, said this approval has paved the way for installing an advanced Doppler Weather Radar in the Marathwada region for more accurate weather forecasting.

In his letter, Dr. Jitendra Singh further stated that the existing 250 km-range Doppler radar in Solapur is currently being used for weather monitoring in the Parbhani and Nanded areas. Additionally, under the ‘Mission Mausam’ initiative, the Central Government has approved another proposal to install a new C-Band radar in the Parbhani region.

Marathwada is a drought-prone region, and timely, accurate weather information is crucial for farmers. This project was therefore highly essential. With the positive response from the Central Government, the region’s weather prediction capabilities will now be significantly strengthened, Minister Meghana Sakore-Bordikar said.

A 250 km-range C-Band Radar at Mhaismal Hill, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A request had been made to the Central Government to install a Doppler radar for weather monitoring in Parbhani. With this approval, work has begun to install a 250 km-range C-Band radar at Mhaismal Hill, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This installation will greatly enhance the weather monitoring capacity of the Marathwada region.

Minister Meghana Sakore-Bordikar expressed her gratitude to the Central Government, stating that this decision will significantly benefit agriculture, crop protection, early weather warnings, and disaster management efforts across Marathwada.
